christmas traditions

Wednesday, December 11

Can we talk about Christmas for a second? 13 sleeps away mind you. This will be my second holiday not celebrating in the Midwest and while I’m so sad to be missing out…I’m also looking forward to using this year to start new traditions with our little family of three {number 53 on my 101 in 1001 list}. There are a few below that I’m contemplating but I would love to hear from you. Are there any special traditions that you love year after year? Do tell!
  1. Wearing a new pair of matching PJs on Christmas eve
  2. Preparing the same meal for Christmas Eve or Christmas morning
  3. Gifting a special ornament with the year written on the back
  4. Watching a Christmas movie together before bed
  5. Baking cookies
  6. Opening up a one present before bed
  7. Creating a scavenger hunt around the house to find the stockings
  8. Sleeping under the Christmas tree as a family
The only one I remember from growing up is my mom hiding a pickle ornament in the tree and whoever found it first between my brother and me would get to open the first present. I have a pickle ornament on our tree and plan to keep this tradition when we have little ones of our own.

Hi! I found your blog through La Dolce Vita. Enjoyed your "Get the Look" post.

I always make Monkey Bread on Xmas Eve (google recipe, you just throw it all in to a bundt pan and it sits out overnight). I bake it first thing Xmas morning and it is my kids favorite! They are 21, 17, & 13 and can't wait for it to finish baking, in fact I make 2 because they love it so much. I also make a breakfast casserole the day before to bake on Xmas morning. It has crescent rolls, sausage, and eggs.

I also hide a pickle ornament in the tree and there is usually a fight to see who can find it first! My youngest has a James Avery Christmas charm bracelet that I started when she was 4, each year I buy a new Xmas charm and have it put on by Dec. 1, so she can wear it.

Merry Christmas!

Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your Christmas traditions :) I love the ideas and will definitely be adopting some of these in our house. Especially love the charm bracelet idea! Wishing your family a very merry Christmas!
