my morning green smoothie

Friday, May 3

Back in January when we started our detox program {you can read all about it here and here}, I began researching healthy breakfast options. I was also trying to figure out a way to add more fruits and veggies to my diet. Enter the green smoothie. High in vitamins, fiber, antioxidants, and at least 3 servings of fruits/veggies it is and was the perfect solution. I've been making them for a few months now so you can trust me when I say they are so delicious!
Ingredients:
{makes 1 large-and-in-charge smoothie}
A heaping handful of kale {pre-washed and chopped}
1/2 frozen banana
1 frozen peach, sliced
1 tsp each of ground flax, oat bran and chia seeds
Splash of OJ
You can also add a few ice cubes to cut down on the green taste
Directions:
Combine all the ingredients in the blender, blend for about 30-45 seconds {or until all the chunkies are gone} and drink immediately. I make mine right before I run out the door for work and it is so easy!
It's fun to switch up the recipe too! I'll pick up whatever looks fresh at the store or whatever I can buy organic frozen and try some substitutes. For example, you can replace the peaches with berries or the splash of OJ for a splash of almond milk. The possibilities are endless...and that's what makes it so fun!

And now that our weather is heating up this is an especially fun treat to cool off after a good yoga sweat or your morning run! Enjoy!

P.S. There are lots of delicious smoothie recipes circling around the interwebs. Here are a few of my favorites...
