renovate Houston

Friday, September 5

I recently had the privilege of taking an early morning peak around the adorable store, renovate. Filled to the brim with awesome goodies including but not limited to cards, picture frames, art, home accessories and gorgeous painted furniture - I instantly fell in love. But my favorite about it is the mother-daughter team that runs it. So so special! You can find more information about Cathy & Courtney by clicking here. And David actually went to high school with Courtney back in the day and we love supporting our fellow Memorial Mustangs. :)
{the flowers would make a perfect hostess gift!}
{the gorgeous paintings are by local artist, Kellie Morley}
{I loved the whole look and feel of the store, including this gorgeous table arrangment}
{how cute would these be in a bathroom?}
{I wanted to take this gorgeous painted piece home with me}

If you are a Houstonian then swing by this adorable store.
Located in Spring Branch, right off I-10!
7413 Westview

PS: happy friday, friends! hope you have a fun and relaxing weekend.

5 years

Wednesday, August 20

So this is the post where my sappiness may get insulting. You've been warned. See, I have been living in Houston for five years. FIVE. I know! I still can't get over it myself.  Just yesterday, as I was swerving around another pothole, blasting the AC and listening to a country radio station (yes, COUNTRY. MUSIC.) it suddenly became apparent how much I have changed since moving here. Not in a weird cultish way...but in a genuine, real life way.

This humid, football crazed, tex mex loving, busy city has shaped me. For the better? I'd venture a yes...but you can ask my husband for the real answer ;)

People always ask me questions like: why I ended up here? how I like it here? if I plan on being here long? Which come to think of it, is soooo Texas of them. Side note: But gosh darn it when are they going to stop asking it in a way that makes me feel like a visitor or a tourist. Do I have to wait 10 years for that privilege?  Or just be able to keep up conversation about UT football? Or maybe I need to start carrying a gun? I'll let you know when I figure out the secret.

But back to the matter at hand, Houston! Let me count the things I love about you: I love that I can walk into a bar and always find someone in a cowboy hat. And on that note, I love that chivalry still exists here. I love the weather from October through May. But especially in February when its cold and dreary everywhere else and you are sunny & balmy. I love that we don't have state tax (you know, the important things). And I love that it is perfectly acceptable (even encouraged) to get Tex Mex and margaritas twice a week. I love that you are a big city that seems so small. And that everyone knows everyone or is related to everyone in some way (that's taught me a thing or two about gossiping). I love that football is life. And that Austin is only a 2 hour drive away. I love that "y'all" is a thing here. I also love the restaurants...because, duh! I love rodeo season and pretending that all of us city folks are really country folks at heart. And I love those fried oreos...but mostly just the adorable cows. I love the amazing, good, kind friends that I have met here.  Come to think of it, the people here are what I love most about this city.

You know, the weirdest thing about looking back over the last five years is the way things go by in a blink of an eye and you don't even notice yourself changing until one day it hits you like a ton of bricks. I guess that's the crazy thing about life. Or maybe just your twenties. But either way, I have to say that I'm really enjoying the ride. And I'm so thankful that I ended up in the great state of Texas.

So here's to Houston. My little love note.

Nordstrom's Anniversary sale is here! It's my favorite opportunity of the summer to scoop up those fall must-haves at a great price. Although it's kinda hard to picture myself wearing cashmere in the middle of this TX also makes me excited for the cooler months ahead. I picked up a few of these items last night and wanted to share since there is still time for you.  The sales ends August 4th so go get your shopping on.  :)

artists we love: michelle arms

Tuesday, July 15

Meet one of my favorite artists, Michelle Aramas. Aren't these paintings stunning?! I was first introduced to Michelle's work when I joined the Biscuit Home team back in April. We sell a few of her gorgeous prints in our store and they literally fly off the walls - they are so popular that we can't keep them in stock! Now I just need to find a spot for one in our house. :) I pulled my favorite prints from her website but you can take a look here to see the rest. Which one is your favorite?

inspiring interiors

Monday, July 14

This month I am working on a few finishing touches for our family room. We rearranged the furniture this weekend (pics coming soon) and now I need some pieces that will pull the room together. A few new pillows, books and decorative pieces, an ottoman & a big comfy chair for watching TV to be exact. The images above inspire the overall look & fell I want to end up with - calm, cool and casual. I'll be sure to keep you posted on our progress. Which room is your favorite?

PS: Hope you all enjoyed your weekend. Happy Monday! xoxo

in june...

Friday, July 11

In June, we….
  • Got back into the swing of things after our Greece trip and caught up on jet lag
  • I turned 28!
  • And then we celebrated with sushi {my favorite} and Swan Lake
  • Spent a wonderful weekend with friends in Galveston
  • And David caught dinner for us...see top left photo :)
  • Fell in love with the chocolate croissants from a new bakery, Common Bond
  • And also ate too many breakfast tacos from our other favorite, Torchys
  • All of David's hopes and dreams came true when we caved and bought a Big Green Egg
  • And we spent the rest of the month experimenting with new recipes
  • Just to name a few...
What fun things did you do in June?

PS: happy friday! I hope you have some fun plans this weekend. xoxo

Sedona, AZ

Wednesday, July 9

In September my mom, aunt, cousin & I will be taking a girls trip to Sedona, AZ to celebrate Hannah's graduation from her masters program and her entry into the real world! I can't wait to beat the Houston heat and see this beautiful part of the country. I mean, look at those Red stunning! From what I've heard Sedona is a great spot to hike, relax at the spa and eat southwestern cuisine. Since we just booked our plane tickets yesterday, it is officially time to start planning. Have any of you been here before? If so, I would love to hear any recommendations you have! Good restaurants? Spa treatments? Things to do? Lay it on me...

choosing a chair color for the entry

Tuesday, July 8

If you remember from this post, we were trying to pick a color for our entry demilunes and thanks to everyones help we decided to go with white! I am so pleased with how they turned out...and now comes the fun part: playing around with the styling. :) David laughs at me because every time something gets checked off my list it seems that another item gets added back on. Case in point, the moment those demilunes got to their home...the bay window next to them started looking so bare.

Right now I am thinking about adding some seating. I love the Louis XVI Oval Side chairs from Ballard. They are a great price point, come in tons of color options and can transition to just about any spot in the house if I change my mind. Restoration Hardware has some nice options too! Now I just need some help narrowing down the fabric choice and wood color choice...

Option 1: Brown fabric with white wood
 Option 2: All white
 Option 3: White fabric with brown wood
 Option 4: pin stripe fabric with black wood
 Option 5: Grey fabric with off-white wood
I'm pretty sure I know which one I prefer...but I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Which option do you like best?

5 things you should try this week...

Monday, July 7

Hi friends! Welcome back to reality! Did everyone have a wonderful July 4th weekend? David and I spent the weekend in Houston and it was a ghost town. The stores and streets were eerily quiet - so I know a lot of you were out enjoying yourselves. :) We managed to keep busy by watching fireworks, spending time with family and friends, breaking in David's new Big Green Egg & doing some work on the house (details coming this week). We are always thrilled to celebrate our nations birthday & the freedoms of this great country. It's one of our favorite holidays!

This week I am doing a little cleanse and trying to focus on my health. I am giving up alcohol, caffeine, carbs, sugars, etc and giving my body a little reset. It should be interesting, haha. But before I get back to this morning protein shake, here are five things you should try this week:

Make a fun print of all your favorite instagram photos...
 Try this cute braid for summer. It's especially perfect if you are trying to grow out your bangs...
 Make Taco Tuesdays a household staple. You can keep the menu healthy with turkey tacos...
 Isn't this the perfect summer fridays outfit at the office?
 And remember...

happy monday! let's make this week a great one.
